I've been lucky enough to explore the Santa Ynez Valley a couple of times in the past few months, stopping by several of the charming towns, including Los Olivos, Los Alamos, Ballard, Santa Ynez, and Solvang. It’s the perfect long-weekend getaway from anywhere in SoCal, brimming with fantastic restaurants, wineries, and antique shops. Here are some of my top recommendations:
drink

The Santa Ynez Valley is probably best known for their vineyards, wineries and tasting rooms so it only feels right to start with some favorites that effortlessly meld beautiful architecture, warm ambiance, and of course great wine — Presqu'ile Winery, Bodega (small shop, greenhouse and Airbnb all on property), Fresh Garage from Stolpman Vineyards (well-known for their “Love You Bunches” natural wine), Solminer, and Brave & Maiden. Special shoutout to Maverick Saloon if you’re less interested in vibey wine tasting and more down for swing dancing and brews.
stay

There a few great hotels in this area including Skyview in Los Alamos, The Inn at Mattei's Tavern in Los Olivos, and The Landsby in Solvang. Or if you/your group prefer Airbnbs, you should check out Bodega House in Los Alamos, this charming studio in downtown Santa Ynez, or this guesthouse in Ballard.
shop

During my most recent trip to Los Alamos, I spent the better part of Saturday shopping in the town center. It’s a great place to go if you are interested in antiques, and vintage shopping. Curated boutiques like Sister’s Gift and Home, and Campover were both lovely and chalk full of items for the home. And finally, if you know me, you know I adore a gourmet grocer, and Elderflat is an absolute must if you too are a foodie freak.
eat

For breakfast, Bob’s Well Bread (with locations in Los Alamos & Ballard) is a local staple. I recommend something from the bakery case, like their English muffin with butter & jam or a flaky croissant. Another great spot for breakfast or brunch is Pony in Santa Ynez, which is undergoing a remodel and will soon offer dinner, too. For lunch or dinner, don’t miss Bell’s (Michelin-starred) in Los Alamos, Bar Le Côte (Bell’s sister restaurant) in Los Olivos, and S.Y. Kitchen in Santa Ynez.
